Robert W. Riley, M.D., M.S, D.D.S.

Education


Dr. Robert Riley attended the University of California in San Francisco, earning a D.D.S and M.S. in Pharmacology in 1972. From there he went on to the University of Alabama in Birmingham, where he earned a M.D. in 1977.

His specialty training included residencies in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery from the University of California in Los Angeles and Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery from Stanford University.

Dr. Robert Riley’s 25 years of clinical practice and research have revolved around surgery of the facial skeleton and airway reconstruction as it relates to sleep disordered breathing (sleep apnea).

Work History

Dr. Robert Riley has continued his clinical affiliation with the Stanford University School of Medicine since 1982.
He currently holds the following appointments:

  • Adjunct Clinical Professor of Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery
  • Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor of Behavioral Science (Sleep Medicine)
  • Diplomat of the American Board of Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery
  • Fellow of the American College of Surgeons
  • Fellow of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery

Dr. Robert Riley has earned the following awards during his career:

  • American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery
  • Ira Tresley Research Award, 1987
  • Chief Residents Teaching Award
  • Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery, Stanford University School of Medicine, 1994
  • Outstanding Achievement in Medicine Award
  • Santa Clara County Medical Association, 2001

His clinical research interests have resulted in contributions in over 100 scientific publications and books.
